New Committee Roles

The growth and success of CSN over the past year has led us to change the committee structure and roles.

From next year, CSN will be managed by a team of university students, Project Officers (POs), who will each have their own separate focuses whilst working together on CSN projects throughout the year.

The responsibility of the activities of CSN ultimately lies with the Board of Trustees who support and guide the POs throughout the year.

Student Leader Coordinator

The role of the Student Leader Coordinator is to support and encourage collaboration between the student leaders across the UK. This could be via organising regular online meetings for Cathsoc chairs across the country, with input from keynote speakers. This will involve connecting with student leaders before the academic year starts to understand what support is required. A student leadership summit will also be coordinated alongside the events officer within the first semester. As you will become the point of contact with student leaders for CSN, you will become a key point of contact for the other project officers throughout the year as they run campaigns and organise events. You may also provide support for students who are hoping to start a student group/society in their area.

Key dates to note throughout the year:

Project Officer Training Weekend: Summer term 2021

CSN Student Leadership Summit: Mid-September 2021

Large Scale CSN Student Event: Mid-June 2022

Campaigns Officer

The campaigns officer will partner with different external organisations and students to run campaigns, including for the key liturgical times of Advent and Lent. You will be supported to connect with other church organisations, however, feel free to bring your own connections, ideas and creativity. The seasonal campaigns aim to bring a sense of a wider student community, engaging as many students as possible in Catholic faith and teaching, reaching active Cathsoc members and maybe even non-Catholic students too. You will also gather and share ideas and resources for Catholic societies and chaplaincy groups for key times of the university year such as Freshers week.

You will be a representative for catholic students in the UK at various forums including interfaith events, national student bodies and RC Church organisations such as the Bishops Conference and the National Office for Vocations throughout the year. You will seek to collate student opinions and stories on various topics throughout the year, and sharing them on various media platforms. You may wish to bring together focus groups for conversations on different topics to give a voice to what Catholic students think on certain key societal issues and movements within the Church.

You will be working with the larger CSN team including the trustees and our external partners. You will also coordinate and encourage the involvement of the other POs and student volunteers to enable these events to run. During the year, you may also wish to advertise retreats or other events organised by different groups which may be of interest to the Catholic student body. You may also support students seeking advice for events in their own chaplaincy/university.
